Keep it out of direct sun and standing water
Prolonged direct sunlight can dry out and fade any wood finish over years, and standing liquid is the fastest way to leave a ring or lift the grain. Treat your tray the way you would a fine end table, not a coaster.
Wipe, don't scrub
A soft, dry cloth is all you need for daily use. For anything more than dust, use a barely damp cloth and dry it immediately. Avoid household cleaners, they strip the natural oils in the finish.
Oil it twice a year
A light coat of food-safe mineral oil or a dedicated wood conditioner, applied every six months or so, keeps the grain from drying out and deepens the color of the wood. Apply with a soft cloth, let it sit for a few minutes, then buff off the excess.
